LosinG wiTh a SmiLe:D

September 26, 2009.It was an ordinary day for Filipinos residing in Luzon especially in Metro Manila.
It was raining yet people were still doing the usual things. For 9 hours, it rained and rained; flood covered the entire community. Then, we all knew it was the manifestation of typhoon Ondoy's wrath. It was then followed by devastation caused by typhoon Pepeng, Ramil, Santi and Tino.

Climate Change has threatened humanity. According to reports, 150,000 people die a year because of flood, typhoon, earthquake and other calamities due to its effect. And, those effects are caused by the interminable abuse of people in Mother Nature, our home. We don't want to experience another calamity, right?

Today, we are living in a fast pace world. Thanks to the innovation of Information Technology. If it weren't for Information Technology, we couldn't communicate with our loved ones outside the country just a few clicks and types away. We couldn't play internet virtual games which are now loved by many youngsters. We could not search for information for our projects and research papers without flipping through thick pages of encyclopedias. We owe it all to Information Technology.

The ICT sector contributes 2% of the global greenhouse gas emissions. But, news isn't complete without the good one. The good news is that its products and services could diminish an estimated 15% of the emissions when it is applied in industry, transportation. buildings and power sectors.

Greenpeace, an independent global campaigning organization, conducted the Cool IT Challenge. They called big companies such as IBM, Google and Microsoft to lead the challenge. They were chosen because they have great potential. They can create new markets, improve products, give jobs to unemployed and make money. There would also be no doubt politicians would support them.

Computers bearing the "Energy Star" sign are programmed to be in sleep mode or low power mode when not in use. In that way, the energy used drops down to 15 watts compared to a hundred when fully active. LCDs are also used as computer display screens because it is 30 to 50 percent more energy efficient. Greenpeace presented climate solutions to the IT industry. And, all they need to do is to implement it. They need to implement improved videoconferencing, smart power grids and competent production and logistics.

The power to rebuild the world is right at our fingertips. Through the help of technology and our collective effort, we can succeed. By posting shoutouts or status in our social networking sites, making a blog, creating a video regarding global awareness, we can start the step to change. Ondoy's aftermath caused flood of support from people in online communities. Some people even joined online auctions and promised that the proceeds will go to the victims. We can feel the eagerness of people to help not only in foundations and organizations but also online.

Genesis 1:1 and Acts 17:24 states that God made the heavens and the earth, everything in it. The world we are living is not ours. We are given the responsibility to take care of it. Ecclesiastes 3 tells us that there is a season for everything and a time for every matter under heaven. There was a time that we killed the environment, slowly day by day. Now is the time to heal it. there was a time that we broke down and destroyed the world. Now is the time to rebuild it. Let us join the cause. Let us make our home, our world, our planet a better place. Let us not allow another typhoon to ruin us once more. Most of all, let us make God happy.

Wouldn't it be beautiful if we wake up in the morning seeing the verdant hills, hearing the rush of water and smelling the freshest air while living in a world of comfort? We can do it God's way. We can do it the "techie" way.

abysmal chagrins

HUNGER
already part of the Filipino Culture
Easing the pains of their stomachs,
for food is always out of stock

POVERTY
Obvious state of the society
A state experienced by almost all families
Those in remote and squatter areas, specifically

ILLITERACY
Reading and writing incapacity
Reason why kids work instead of going to school
Increasing the birth rate of ignoramus and fools

LACK OF EMPLOYMENT
Maybe because of low educational attainment
The cause: no jobs inclined with the expertise of workers
The effect: the rise of gargantuan call centers

KILLINGS and KIDNAPPINGS
Done by men who are willing,
Willing to commit a crime to have money and attention.
They do it without feeling any compunction.

CORRUPTION
Done by officials with high position
Stealing money from poor man’s wallet
And down it goes inside their pockets

CHARTER CHANGE
There are still a lot of things to arrange.
So, set this issue aside.
Just do your job to lead, serve and guide.

WRITERS
Let us wield our pens together
Change is yet to come.
The battle for truth has begun.
..I wrote this a year ago and passed this for a contest,SUWAT2009 (WRITE2009in english). They texted me and said I won 2nd place..

HAIKU and POEM

I made this haiku and poem for our project in school. Nothing, I just wanted to post it.

HAIKU
A sight of beauty
Flowing, Falling from above
Nature's waterfalls

POEM
When God made the Earth,
He created it beautifully.
And so, nature gave birth
to nature bountifully.
There are thousands of evidence
of God's eternal providence.

Take a look at the land,
Green grass and trees are plenty.
And more is on its hand,
We can feel and see sights so pretty.
Running & flying, big & small animals
all are created special.

Take a look at the seas,
the sand and rolling waves are present.
You feel your spirit at ease
See how fishes and corals went.
There are still a lot of things to mention
just lokk around and change your perception

Unknown Topic???

Labor Day is the celebration and the day of giving honors to our dear industrious workers. Those people who sweat a lot, get tired and sometimes wounded and aching bodies are the people who just earn meager money. Most of them are: farmers, fishermen, teachers, factory workers, construction workers...etc. While those people who just sit and talk, greeting every people they meet eventhough they didn't know their names and the people who appear in T.V commercials  bragging about the "Great Act" they had done, have thousands maybe millions as salaries. Well, I assume you already know these people I'm talking about. Some of the government officials are just taking their work for granted. Some use the cars with red plates going out and strolling at the mall during sundays. I even saw on TV that a government car has been parked on a motel. Others also give money to poor people not just because they need them but because elections are fast approaching . How about the Fertilizer Fund scam?ZTE Broadband deal? I'm not saying that all government officials are bad. I do not prefer to generalize. I'm still 15 yrs old. and if anybody from the government who would read this, I hope you would not take this as an insult but an encouragement to do your work efficiently. I still have 80% trust in our government. I'm taking this blog as a step in fulfilling our national hero's, "Ang Kabataan ang Pag-asa ng Bayan".

..my insight on wars

World Peace, a line which we commonly hear from the contestants of a beauty pageant answering the question, “What is your greatest wish for the world?”. A line which remains as a line. Cease Fire, a phrase which we hear from people afflicted by war and craving for its end. A phrase which remains as a phrase. World Peace and Cease fire, a line and a phrase, which came from their mouths and our mouths. And up to now, that line and that phrase have never been put into actions. Did the world attain peace? Have the opposing armies ceased bombings with each other?

Wars are found and felt everywhere in the world. A little disagreement instantly turns to deeper problems and eventually becomes war. Wars do not happen only between warring nations or states but also between disputing neighbors. A conflict with your brother or sister may turn to war. Even if you’re not using fire arms, those wanton and slanderous words you utter against each other stir up war.

Have you ever noticed that we also have wars just within ourselves? Can’t you feel that we are battling everyday? Two forces which are always against each other tell us to do this and that. Good and evil forces are always there in our move. It’s up to us whether we follow good or the evil.

War begins and ends in ourselves. If we’re trapped in such situation, let us humble down ourselves. Refuting will not help. To discern right from wrong will help us achieve and put world peace and cease fire into actions. Above all, we could only find peace in God. Isaiah 9:6d tells us that He is the Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace.

...I made this one for our English Elective Class together with the other piece,"Friendship".

FRIENDSHIP

Nowadays, many people can tell that it’s difficult to find real friends. Now that everyone is facing a crisis, it’s really hard to give your full trust to someone. We have lots of friends, but can you name those who are real and genuine? Allow me to tell you a very good story about friendship.

A video in Youtube entitled,” Christian, the lion” really moved me. This is a real story, a great friendship between humans and animals. It was year 1969 when John Rendall and Ace Berg saw a lonely and cramped cub. They decided to bring it home and a local vicar did agree. They named him Christian. Christian quickly became big for their grounds that they allowed to introduce him in Africa. A year later, John and Ace were informed that Christian already leads his own pride and would not recognize humans anymore. Undaunted, they still went to Africa to visit and check him. When they arrived, they asked natives if they have seen a lion guiding his own pride. Surprisingly, a lion walks towards the. It was Christian! He leaped over his friends. He really missed them a lot that he was kissing, hugging and licking their face.

C.S. Lewis once quoted that friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy like art… it has no survival value; rather, it is one of those things that give value to survival. In the story, Christian was reintroduced in Africa and his friends were his inspirations for his survival. We can also find a real friend. It may not be a lion nor any other animal.

Proverbs 18:24 says, “A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” We are living in a cruel world. We can hardly find friends that are true. All may leave, but there is one friend who’ll stay. A friend who could be my friend, your friend and everybody’s friend. He is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. His name is Jesus Christ.
